OCI Card Consulting for Los Angeles and Southern California

Los Angeles has one of the largest Indian-origin communities in the United States, spread across neighborhoods from Artesia to Cerritos, Irvine to the San Fernando Valley. For families of Indian origin in Southern California, the OCI card is an essential document, giving lifelong visa-free access to India and the right to live, work, and study there. But getting the card means navigating the OCI Services portal, assembling the right documents, meeting strict photo specifications, and coordinating submission to the correct consulate.

OCI applications from Los Angeles and the broader Southern California region are handled by the Consulate General of India in Los Angeles, which covers Southern California, Arizona, Nevada and New Mexico. Akshar Travels manages this consulate coordination for every client we serve in the area. Whether you are applying for the first time, applying as a former PIO card holder, renewing after a passport change, or getting OCI for a minor, we manage the complete process virtually, by phone, email and WhatsApp.

We serve clients in Los Angeles, Long Beach, Irvine, Anaheim, Riverside, San Bernardino, and the full Southern California area. Distance is not a barrier. We have helped Indian families across all 50 states handle their OCI applications, and our process is built for remote clients.

How Los Angeles and Southern California Clients Work With Us

Call or Email Us

Tell us what you need and where you are located. We confirm your consulate jurisdiction and the exact documents required.

We Send Your Checklist

We send a complete, case-specific document checklist. You gather your documents following our guide.

Share Your Documents Virtually

Send photos or scans of your documents by email or WhatsApp. We check every page, complete the forms and prepare your packet. If the consulate needs originals, we tell you exactly what to send and how to pack them.

We Submit and Track

We review everything, complete your application, submit to the correct consulate, and track status until your documents are returned to you.

Passport renewal from Southern California

Indian passport renewal runs through the same consulate as your OCI case, by way of the VFS Global centre that serves Southern California. We prepare the Passport Seva form, check the photos and the proofs of address and status, and tell you exactly what goes in the packet and where it goes.

US passport renewal is a federal process, the same from every state: a DS-82 by mail when your last passport was issued within the past fifteen years and after you turned sixteen, otherwise a DS-11 in person at an acceptance facility. We check the form and the photo before anything goes out, and we tell you which processing option fits your travel date.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Indian consulate handles OCI applications from Los Angeles?

The Consulate General of India in Los Angeles covers Southern California, Arizona, Nevada and New Mexico. All OCI applications from the LA area are submitted there. Akshar Travels coordinates this consulate submission for every Southern California client we work with.

Do I need to visit an Akshar office?

No. Akshar Travels works with Los Angeles clients entirely remotely. We handle your application virtually, by phone, email and WhatsApp. You stay in Southern California throughout the entire process. Many of our regular clients are in LA, Irvine, Cerritos, and the Inland Empire.

How long does OCI processing take from California?

Current processing at the Los Angeles consulate is approximately 8 to 16 weeks. Volumes and Indian government holiday periods can affect timelines. We track your application status throughout and will flag any unusual delays early so you can plan travel accordingly.

Who is eligible for an OCI card?

Any Indian-born person who has taken citizenship of another country is eligible. Children and grandchildren of someone who was an Indian citizen can also apply. Spouses of Indian citizens or OCI holders are eligible provided the marriage has lasted at least two years. We confirm your eligibility on the first call, before you gather any documents.

Do I need to renew my OCI card when I renew my US passport?

Not always. If your OCI card was issued before age 20, you need a new OCI card once, the first time you get a new passport after turning 20. In most other cases, a new passport means updating your passport details on the OCI portal instead. Rules do change, so we check your case first. We handle re-issues and updates and coordinate the timing with your passport renewal.

What happens if my OCI application is rejected?

Rejections most commonly result from photo specification errors, mismatched names across documents, or missing supporting papers. Our pre-submission review is designed to catch all of these before your application goes in. If a rejection does occur, we analyze the reason and assist you in resubmitting a corrected application.
