OCI Card Consulting for Boston and New England

Greater Boston has a well-established Indian-origin community across Cambridge, Burlington, Lexington, Shrewsbury, Westborough, Acton and Quincy, with Nashua, Providence and Worcester close behind. For families of Indian origin living in New England, the OCI card is the document that lets you travel to India without a visa for life and live, work and study there when you choose to.

OCI applications from Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont go to the Consulate General of India in Boston, through the VFS Global application centre that serves it. Before Boston had its own consulate, New England filed through New York, and many families still assume they do. Connecticut stays with New York. Akshar Tours files with the right consulate for your state and manages the whole process by phone, email and courier.

We handle new OCI applications, OCI updates and reissue after a new passport, OCI for spouses and children, and new OCI applications for former PIO card holders, since PIO to OCI conversion ended on December 31, 2025. Whether you live in Cambridge, Burlington, Shrewsbury, Worcester, Nashua, Providence or Portland, Maine, the same person runs your case from the first call until the card is in your hand.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Indian consulate handles OCI applications from Massachusetts?

The Consulate General of India in Boston covers Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont. Applications from Cambridge, Burlington, Shrewsbury, Worcester, Nashua and Providence go through the VFS Global centre that serves that consulate. Akshar Tours prepares and files the application and tracks it until the card arrives.

I used to send my applications to New York. Has that changed?

Yes, for Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont, which now file through the Boston consulate. Connecticut still files through New York. An application sent to the wrong consulate is returned, which costs weeks. We confirm the right consulate for your address before anything is filed.

Do I need to travel to New Jersey to use Akshar Tours?

No. We work with New England clients entirely by phone, email and document courier. You stay in Massachusetts or New Hampshire throughout the process. We send you a courier guide with the address and how to pack your documents safely.

How long does OCI processing take from Boston?

Current processing through the Boston consulate is approximately 8 to 16 weeks from the day the documents reach it. Volumes rise around Indian holidays and the summer travel season. We track the application and tell you when it moves, so you can plan travel around it.

Who is eligible for an OCI card in New England?

Any Indian-born person who has become a US citizen is eligible. Children and grandchildren of someone who was an Indian citizen can also apply. Spouses of Indian citizens or OCI holders are eligible if the marriage has lasted at least two years. We confirm your eligibility on the first call, before you gather any documents.

What if my OCI application is delayed or sent back for correction?

Most OCI setbacks come from photo specification errors, name mismatches across documents, or missing supporting papers. Our check before filing is designed to catch these. If your application is delayed, returned or needs a correction, we tell you the reason and handle the resubmission.
