OCI Card Consulting for Virginia, Maryland and Washington, DC

The Washington area has a large and long-settled Indian-origin community across Fairfax, Loudoun and Prince William counties in Virginia, Montgomery and Howard counties in Maryland, and the District itself, with Richmond, Charlotte, Raleigh, Cary and Louisville close behind. For families of Indian origin living in the mid-Atlantic, the OCI card is the document that lets you travel to India without a visa for life and live, work and study there when you choose to.

OCI applications from Washington, DC, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky and North Carolina go to the consular wing of the Embassy of India in Washington, DC, through the VFS Global application centre that serves it. North Carolina moved to Washington from Atlanta in July 2025, so a family in Charlotte or Raleigh that filed through Atlanta last time files through Washington now. Akshar Tours files with the right mission for your state and manages the whole process by phone, email and courier.

We handle new OCI applications, OCI updates and reissue after a new passport, OCI for spouses and children, and new OCI applications for former PIO card holders, since PIO to OCI conversion ended on December 31, 2025. Whether you live in Ashburn, Herndon, Gaithersburg, Columbia, Richmond, Charlotte, Raleigh or Louisville, the same person runs your case from the first call until the card is in your hand.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Indian mission handles OCI applications from Virginia and Maryland?

The Embassy of India in Washington, DC covers Washington, DC, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky and North Carolina. Applications from Fairfax, Loudoun, Montgomery County, Richmond, Charlotte and the rest of the region go through the VFS Global centre that serves the Embassy. Akshar Tours prepares and files the application and tracks it until the card arrives.

I live in North Carolina. Do I file through Atlanta or Washington?

Washington. North Carolina moved from the Atlanta consulate to the Embassy in Washington, DC in July 2025. An application sent to Atlanta now is returned, which costs weeks. We confirm the right mission for your address before anything is filed.

Do I need to travel to New Jersey to use Akshar Tours?

No. We work with Virginia, Maryland and DC clients entirely by phone, email and document courier. Our Iselin, NJ office is a few hours up the road if you prefer to walk in, but nothing in the process requires it.

How long does OCI processing take through the Washington Embassy?

Current processing through the Embassy in Washington, DC is approximately 8 to 16 weeks from the day the documents reach it. Volumes rise around Indian holidays and the summer travel season. We track the application and tell you when it moves, so you can plan travel around it.

Who is eligible for an OCI card in Virginia, Maryland or DC?

Any Indian-born person who has become a US citizen is eligible. Children and grandchildren of someone who was an Indian citizen can also apply. Spouses of Indian citizens or OCI holders are eligible if the marriage has lasted at least two years. We confirm your eligibility on the first call, before you gather any documents.

What if my OCI application is delayed or sent back for correction?

Most OCI setbacks come from photo specification errors, name mismatches across documents, or missing supporting papers. Our check before filing is designed to catch these. If your application is delayed, returned or needs a correction, we tell you the reason and handle the resubmission.
